Broad With A Rod (A.K.A) OrangeKrush Feb. 10/09
2009 is going to be one very exciting year!
But, let's start from the beginning before I get ahead of myself. I am a born and raised
Saskatchewan Prairie Girl! Don't get me wrong, I'm no city slicker by any stretch of the
imagination. I was raised part time city and part time farm girl with two brothers and an Uncle.
I'll be the first to admit that I'm part Tom Boy and part Woman! Edwin and I met Dec 26/02 and
we hit it off from the start. Except that Edwin made it very clear from day one that I'd NEVER go
fly fishing with him.
Let's fast forward it too the fall of 2006 and Edwin admits to me after a day of fishing, it just wasn't
the same without you! I have never been given a bigger compliment in my life.
I will be the very first to admit that I'm addicted to fly fishing and wish I could spend all my time on
the rivers fishing. I've had the pleasure of fishing the different rivers of Southern Alberta, British
Columbia and Nova Scotia.
Since being introduced to fly fishing in 2005, my greatest pleasure to date is having the opportunity to fly
fish for Atlantic Salmon in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Another favorite spot of mine is the Elk River in Fernie, B.C.
Since being introduced to fly fishing, we have made a point of attending the Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition held
in Calgary every January. This year while attending the Exposition I had the pleasure of meeting Susan of
"The Reel Hookers"! Susan explained to me what the Hookers were all about and invited me to their potluck supper
the following Saturday night. The Reel Hookers is an all woman's fly fishing club located in Calgary, Alberta. I
literally thought I'd died and gone to heaven! I have never signed up for something so fast in my life! Now that I
am one of the Hookers, and I know my life will never be the same! Our first theme night of the 2009 season was Mexican.
Do any of you have any idea how wellus Hookers can swing a rolling pin??
Edwin and I attended the Fly Fishing Film Festival hosted by Michelle of Bow River Shuttles. Proceeds go to Western
Sky Land Trust. Anyone who didn't attend this year, mark your calendars for next year and Be There! It was an amazing
film festival of 4 films on fly fishing. We had the pleasure of seeing "The Hatch", "Angling Addiction", "In Search Of
A Rising Tide" and "Drift". These films took us to places all over the world. It sure makes you dream of the fly fishing
possibilities. Until next time, K..Dream Big Fishing Possibilities!
